Pancreatic pseudocyst

Pancreatic pseudocysts are a collection of fluid surrounding the pancreas, commonly seen in chronic pancreatitis patients compared to acute pancreatitis.

Symptoms

  • Abdominal pain
  • Jaundice
  • Vomiting
  • Fever, if there is infected pseudocyst
  • Bleeding cyst

Treatment

Asymptomatic cysts should be regularly monitored.

  • Cysts that reduce in size progressively, do not require any additional intervention.
  • Persisting enlarged pseudocysts should undergo endoscopy or EUS guided drainage.
  • Cysts difficult for endoscopic drainage require percutaneous drainage
