Double Balloon Enteroscopy

Double balloon enteroscopy (DBE) is a procedure used for evaluating the small intestine

Technique

• DBE requires sedating the patient.
• An Enterosocpe is introduced through the mouth or the anus.
• The Enteroscope and overtube performs deep intubation of small intestine

Indications

• GI bleeding that originates from the small intestine.
• Evaluation of stricture in the small intestine
• Tumor of the small intestine
• Crohn disease patients with functional impairment of the small intestine
• During double balloon enteroscopy, a biopsy is advised in case of any suspicious areas. An endotherapy is suggested for managing the bleeding lesions.
