Double balloon enteroscopy (DBE) is a procedure used for evaluating the small intestine
Technique
- DBE requires sedating the patient.
- An Enterosocpe is introduced through the mouth or the anus.
- The Enteroscope and overtube performs deep intubation of small intestine
Indications
- GI bleeding that originates from the small intestine.
- Evaluation of stricture in the small intestine
- Tumor of the small intestine
- Crohn disease patients with functional impairment of the small intestine
- During double balloon enteroscopy, a biopsy is advised in case of any suspicious areas. An endotherapy is suggested for managing the bleeding lesions.
