ACIDITY AND REFLUX (DYSPEPSIA)
Dyspepsia also known as indigestion, includes pain in the upper abdomen. The main symptoms seen in this condition are:
- Post prandial fullness (feeling of prolonged food existence in the stomach)
- Early satiety (Fullness after eating small portions of meal)
- Epigastric pain (Pain just below the rib cage)
- Epigastric burning
- Bloating in upper abdomen
- Nausea and vomiting
- Belching (Burping)
DIARRHEA AND CONSTIPATION
Diarrhoea is an increase in frequency or decrease in consistency (liquid or semisolid) of stool. It can either be acute or chronic in nature.
- Acute diarrhea is mostly infectious in origin and self-limiting. It can be treated by oral and Intravenous fluids. However, in some cases use of antibiotics and antiparasitic agents is suggested.
- Long standing diarrhoea can be caused due to diseases of small and large intestine and pancreatic insufficiency.
Constipation is the decrease in frequency of stool (less than one stool in 3 days) or change in the form of normal stool frequency. Common reasons include Slowness of bowel movement, Hypothyroidism, Diabetes mellitus etc.See Full Detail
Excessive intestinal gas can occur due to
- Excess swallowing during eating
- Excess production of gas from undigested food
The most common symptoms include
- Eructation (Burping)
- Excessive flatulence (farting)

GASTRO INTESTINAL BLEEDING
Bleeding from any part of gastrointestinal tract form mouth to anus is defined as gastrointestinal bleeding, Patient may have bleeding from the mouth (fresh red or coffee colored blood) or in the stool (red, maroon, black).
Common causes of GI bleed involve Upper GI bleeding:
- Mallory Weiss tear (tear of lower esophagus tissue)
- Esophageal varices (esophagus with enlarged veins)
- Esophagitis (inflammation in the esophagus)
- Esophageal ulcer
- Esophgageal cancer
LIVER DISEASES AND ALCOHOLISM
Conditions associated with excess consumption of alcohol such as liver cirrhosis, liver cancer and fatty liver disease.
Common causes include:
- Hepatitis B
- Hepatitis C
- Excessive Alcohol consumption
- Drug overdose.
Jaundice is symptom of liver disease, which manifest as yellowish discoloration of skin and eyes. Excessive accumulation of bilirubin in the blood causes the discoloration
Causes of jaundice are
- Hemolysis (Excess destruction of RBCs)
- Gilbert syndrome (Liver disorder)
- Conjugated hyperbilirubinemia (Excess accumulation of bilirubin due to liver diseases such as liver inflammation or obstruction in biliary system of the liver)
Inflammed and swollen blood vessels around the anus are referred as piles. It usually results in bleeding, discomfort while sitting and itching.

- Strained bowel movements
